Court Appointed Special Advocates of United Way in Calloway County is actively seeking volunteers so that children who have been abandoned, neglected, or abused can have an adult voice in court. The program includes training which requires participants to become familiar with courtroom procedures and circumstances of assigned cases so that evaluation and recommendations that are in the best interest of the child can be made in court until a permanent plan for the child is created. Lourdes Hospital is holding a training session for anyone interested in becoming a hospice volunteer on Monday May 20 and Tuesday, May 21, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Lourdes North Plaza. After completing training, volunteers provide an array of services, such as a respite for the caregiver, playing soft music, or reading an inspirational story to a patient.
